Released: 6/1/2021

You have likely seen our vehicles in your neighborhood - big white busses with the STC logo on them, however, some of them also highlight the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) logo in bright red letters on the driver and passenger doors. Why? Because we are proud to partner with them in providing accessible transportation to individuals with mobility needs.

We have a long history of a partnering with the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) going back to the creation of STC as the organization serving the mobility needs of the county's older adults. But the relationship strengthened approximately eleven years ago when RTA contracted with STC to provide paratransit services, Paratransit are transportation services that supplement fixed-route mass transit by providing individualized rides without fixed routes or timetables. Typically paratransit riders are unable to independently travel on the public transit system.

GCRTA selects contractors to complement their own paratransit services through a competitive proposal process every 5 years. Currently STC is one of three contractors working with RTA. Contractors also commit to working with Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) companies as subcontractors, who assist in delivering part of required work. STC and our subcontractors must meet service compliance standards, which are monitored on a monthly basis.

STC manages RTA 10 routes per day using 14 busses which are rotated regularly. Service is provide on weekends as well. The primary difference between STC's community and paratransit work is RTA determines rider eligibility and handles scheduling and dispatch of rides.

Undeniably, this partnership is a good thing - RTA revenue contributes to the STC bottom line, and we have learned ways to improve our services overall. Most importantly, this is an extension of STC's mission to provide affordable and accessible transportation for older adults and persons with disabilities. We appreciate the partnership!
