Caregivers - The Other Important Passenger
Senior Transportation Connection happily includes another group of passengers in addition to our registered riders. Caregivers or personal care assistants (PCAs) are usually family members or paid home care aides who provide a higher level of personal assistance.
They travel (free of charge) with the rider to appointments and help them with shopping, pushing their wheel chairs, or carrying their possessions as they utilize their walker. They also schedule appointments for riders, ensuring that all details are covered. STC spoke with a couple of individuals who take care of their family members:
• Sherry has been taking care of her husband for the past 10 years when he was first diagnosed with cancer. They have been riding with STC for the past 6 years. She shared "before 2020 and the arrival of COVID, I used to travel with him all the time, but due to my health issues he has had to travel alone. STC has been great, and I don't worry about him getting to and from his destination."
• Elizabeth also cares for her husband, makes his appointments and rides along on with him on trips. Elizabeth happily states, "Riding with STC has been wonderful for us. Sometimes I can schedule joint appointments - making it very convenient for both of us. The drivers are courteous and very helpful."
• Lory lives in California, and schedules rides for her 85 year old father who suffered from a stroke, and her brother who travels him on STC vehicles. "I am so happy that STC makes it easy for me to call from across the country to book his rides," Lory says and then confides, "I don't know the area he lives, but I never have to worry about him."
STC is happy to serve caregivers along with our riders. We appreciate the extra care they provide in meeting the needs of our passengers.
